An experienced Road Profiling Contractor can remove Asphalt and other Pavements and Resurface reliably, and cost-effectively by carrying out a widely used process called Milling & Resurfacing.
Milling and Resurfacing otherwise known as Milling and Overlay is a rehabilitation process most commonly used on Asphalt Pavements. However, not limited only to Asphalt, it can be carried out on other pavements such as concrete and road base. The process is typically executed over a sound structural pavement exhibiting minor to moderate surface distress such as cracking, rutting, bleeding, oxidisation, ravelling and general pavement deterioration.
Milling and Resurfacing makes up a large portion of Road Rehabilitation works carried out throughout Sydney. Profiling or milling the existing pavement produces a relatively smooth and problem free surface in preparation of Resurfacing. And, practical from a safety aspect due to its skid resistance, the milled surface can be used immediately by vehicular traffic as a temporary measure prior to the Overlay being carried out.
A further option to standard profiling is Micro-Milling also known as surface planning or fine milling and, is an innovative way to rehabilitate Asphalt Pavements. This method creates a smoother surface than the traditional profiling method and can be used by vehicular traffic with no further treatment required. In addition, is suited to a particularly thin Resurfacing layer. Overall due to the additional precision required to perform this process Fine Milling is not as cost effective as traditional profiling methods.
Milled Asphalt and other materials are generally recycled and can be used in the manufacture of new product. For example, Asphalt milling also known as RAP is commonly recycled, either by recycling in situ at the end of its life, or by removal and incorporation in a new Asphalt mix. This process provides environmental benefits by reducing the demand on raw materials, land fill sites, energy use and re use of a material so readily available.
